Like normal young girls we were quite stylish and modern. But this girl was too simple by all standards and usually spent time alone. This girl was from the Gounder community from Erode, South India . Her Tamizh accent gave her away. The secret behind her simple, sad life was a story. She was in love in her high school days with a person. He belonged to a lower caste. After much drama, melodrama the girl’s parents agreed to their marriage after her graduation . The youth was asked (invited) to meet the parents and other heads of the family. Things were fine. One fateful day as he rode his motor bike for work he was hit by a lorry and died on the spot. Everybody mourned his death in her town. But only the girl knew it a was a preplanned accident (murder) by the father. Hence her disinterest in life and happiness. Why was that done? He was from a lower caste, lower economic level, only well educated. If this marriage were to take place the father’s respect was at stake. He may knowingly push his daughter into a poorer, less comfortable house. Besides if the property were to be given (divided as per property rights) to her it would go to her man and with this the wealth level of another community goes up so. the wealth is not lost, only added or multiplied. Then what about girls who did not come from wealthy families.. Here the “caste” factor comes in. No father wants their daughter sharing her bed with a low caste man, but the son sharing the bed with a woman from another caste is a not a problem in a male dominated society. Here too they presume one day he may marry again a girl from his own caste, due to difference of opinion or whatever. If a lower caste man sleeps (has se*) with his daughter it is the biggest shame on earth for a man. It is similar to a slap on his face. Usually the father is forced to commit suicide with / without family by the taunts of the strong community. The father’s prestige is more important here than the daughters ‘s happiness. Women and girls are still a silent breed in a male dominated, wealth dominated community. Their hatred for the Dalit community runs back to thousands of years. Similarly they do not like the upper caste Brahmins too. Usually our weddings are done with a priest, Homam fire etc. But in some of these communities and castes of Tamil nadu, they bypass all these norms and their marriages are conducted with the blessings of the community heads and elders . Nowadays, of course there are numerous other ways to do away with such unwanted lower caste lovers / grooms by such caste fanatics….like body found with wounds below river bridges, suicides, drowning in wells, scattered near railway tracks, accidents and even henchmen attacks (paid jobs). When you love something or someone there are actually three things going on simultaneously or at the same time. You feel very intense pleasure during the loving experience. You care about the love object or subject. You have a desire to repeat the loving experience in the short and/or long term. Some humans wrongly think that medium intensity pleasure is also love but it is really attraction, affection, fondness, and liking which exists at other times in an ongoing loving relationship. You can love more than one person like a parent can love more than one child. It is even possible to love more than one woman or more than one man and it is also possible to love both a man and a woman or be bisexual. Love: to sense a very intense pleasure for a subset(s) one cares about and the behaviors which exist with it and frequently desiring to (possess and/or interact with) and/or experience samer subset(s) for a short and/or long duration The above is about the most inclusive and generally accurate logical definition which you could have which is not scientifically provable nor mathematically formulated. It is my personal understanding of what love really is and once revealed of course there are probably others who will wish to improve upon or slightly modify the definition. Many parents accept the love marriage of their sons but not the love marriage of their daughter. This is true. I had a hostel mate in my days in Presidency college where I did my P G studies. Like normal young girls we were quite stylish and modern. But this girl was too simple by all standards and usually spent time alone. We on the other hand used to go shopping, movies, beach and every where else as hostels do not have any parental control, only a warden with time limits. This girl was from the Gounder community from Erode, South India . Her Tamizh accent gave her away. The secret behind her simple, sad life was a story. She was in love in her high school days with a person. He belonged to a lower caste. After much drama, melodrama the girl’s parents agreed to their marriage after her graduation . The youth was asked (invited) to meet the parents and other heads of the family. Things were fine. One fateful day as he rode his motor bike for work he was hit by a lorry and died on the spot. Everybody mourned his death in her town. But only the girl knew it a was a preplanned accident (murder) by the father. Hence her disinterest in life and happiness. Why was that done? He was from a lower caste, lower economic level, only well educated. If this marriage were to take place the father’s respect was at stake. He may knowingly push his daughter into a poorer, less comfortable house. Besides if the property were to be given (divided as per property rights) to her it would go to her man and with this the wealth level of another community goes up so. A low caste gets richer the easy way. They cannot tolerate subtraction of wealth from their community. On the other hand a girl from another caste brings in wealth if she belongs to a rich family. If not atleast there is no giving away as the boy remains with the paternal family. No property is divided or donated away. This is the main hidden reason for the double standards. The youth was asked (invited) to meet the parents and other heads of the family. Things were fine. One fateful day as he rode his motor bike for work he was hit by a lorry and died on the spot. Everybody mourned his death in her town. But only the girl knew it a was a preplanned accident (murder) by the father. Hence her disinterest in life and happiness. Why was that done? He was from a lower caste, lower economic level, only well educated. If this marriage were to take place the father’s respect was at stake. He may knowingly push his daughter into a poorer, less comfortable house. Besides if the property were to be given (divided as per property rights) to her it would go to her man and with this the wealth level of another community goes up so.
