John Bolton is a terrifying warmonger who loves to blow things up. Bolton’s book, The Room Where It Happened (for which he received a reported $2 million book advance), is a torpid 577 pages and reads like poorly translated stereo instructions, (Bolton has a gift for blending the color and excitement out of every single event he chronicles.) Mary Trump’s book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, is a much more readable 225 pages, a delicious tell-all that does in fact tell all in a way one longs for a tell-all to do. I detested Bolton’s book from the Once You Go Pit You Never Quit T-Shirt I opened his behemoth but then I also detest Bolton.

Over the last few weeks, two very different books have told the story of an unstable president unable to govern and unfit to lead.
